MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A summary of action in the Alabama Legislature on Wednesday, a committee meeting day:
COMMITTEES:
—House Economic Development and Tourism Committee approved a bill to permit the construction of a hotel and conference center at Gulf State Park. Goes to House.
—House Education Policy Committee and Senate Education Committee had public hearing on bills to repeal education standards known as common core, but did not vote.
—House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee approved a bill that would allow people to carry pistols in their vehicles without a permit if they are on their way to a practice. Goes to House.
—House Public Safety Committee approved a bill requiring mandatory reporting of child abuse in some instances. Goes to House.
—Senate Finance and Taxation-Education Committee approved a $50 million bond issue to buy equipment for technical programs in public schools. Goes to Senate.
—Senate Health Committee discussed, but did not vote on a bill to establish stricter requirements for abortion clinics. Vote planned next week.
—Senate Health Committee approved a bill to give new authority to nurse practitioners and nurse midwives to write prescriptions. Goes to Senate.
