Couple arrested for child sex abuse

BREWTON, Ala. (WALA) - COUPLE CHARGED WITH SEX ABUSE

A husband and wife in Brewton have been arrested and charged after an 11-year-old child told authorities she had been sexually and physically abused by the pair. Calvin and Robin Green face charges of willful abuse and sexual abuse on a child under 12.

Escambia County Alabama Sheriff, Grover Smith, said the investigation started after the child reported the abuse to social workers.

"The facts came to light during the investigation that this child had been both sexually and physically abused," Sheriff Smith said.

ABUSED FOR YEARS

Investigators say the child told them that the abuse had been going on for four years. Since the child was seven-years-old. Sheriff Smith couldn't give many details on the case without jeopardizing the investigation, but he said much more will come out in court.

"Once a grand jury reviews this case and we complete the investigation, I wouldn't be surprised if additional charges were filed," he said.

For now the Greens are being held in the Escambia County Detention Center, each under a $100,000 bond. Meanwhile, the 11-year-old victim is in protective custody.

"Anytime a person is accused of molesting a child, there's nothing to feel good about, but were satisfied we're doing our job," Sheriff Smith added.

HEADED TO THE GRAND JURY

The next step for this case is a grand jury. It will be several weeks though, before that happens.
