SELMA, Ala. (WALA) - A congressional delegation headed to the Bridge Crossing Jubilee in Selma visited Montgomery on Saturday to see a civil rights attraction and visit the governor.
About 200 people turned out to see the delegation led by Rep. John Lewis of Georgia place a wreath at the Civil Rights Memorial. The wreath was to honor people killed in the civil rights movement.
Gov. Robert Bentley hosted a reception at the Capitol on Saturday evening for the congressional delegation, civil rights figures and other leaders. Bentley said it's important to embrace the state's history, and it's also important to show people how Alabama has changed.
The delegation heads to Selma on Sunday to re-enact the 1965 voting rights march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Lewis was one of the original marchers.
