MIAMI (WALA) - Former Mobile County Commissioner and murder suspect Stephen "Steve" Nodine will be released from a federal prison today.
In April 2011, Nodine was sentenced to 15 months in prison on federal gun and drug charges. He will remain on probation.
Gordon Armstrong, Nodine's attorney, said he might have already been released, and has 72 hours to report to the Mobile County jurisdiction.
"He is required to report to this jurisdiction and will start a 3 year supervised released," said Armstrong. "He told me he is ready to put this behind him and focus on his state charges."
Although he'll soon be free, his legal battles are not over. Nodine remains the only in the shooting death of his longtime mistress Angel Downs.
She was found shot to death in the driveway of her Gulf Shores condo.
His December trial for that ended with the jury ended in deadlock, resulting in a mistrial. A special prosecutor was brought in the retry the case.
