Runoff elections to be held today

(WALA) - Mayor Ron Davis said he hopes to hold on to his job for another four years.  But, he's facing a strong challenge from city council member Troy Ephriam who received nearly 500 more votes than Davis.

Both candidates for the District 4 city council seat were at the Sunlight District polling site Tuesday trying to drum up some last minute votes.

George McCall Jr., is trying to reclaim the a spot on the City Council he held from 2000 to 2004. 

"To lead the people and get things moving in district four, as far as taking care of streets, the drainage, overgrown lots, abandon houses to make the environment safe for the kid," McCall said.

But new comer Don Hunter received more votes in the September 11th election.   He's hoping to do the same this time around.

"The people of Prichard are tired.  With the water bills, and a lot of this stuff happened in the past, but I think the only change that's going to come is if we get innovative people to come in a make a difference.  The same old politics is not going to work in Prichard, it haven't worked, and it's not going to work," Hunter said.

The candidates may have their idea of what will be the deciding factor in the race, but the voters will have the final say.

We asked some voters about what's most important to them in this election.

"One thing I'm focused on is someone  who's going to do something about the pension plan because I think people who work really hard deserve that, also the water company, the water bill," Donna Lynch said.

"I want to see Prichard grow you know what I'm saying, and I want it to grow and be like it use to be.  The city of Prichard we need infrastructure, we need businesses to come here, anything that will make it better," Marteal Laster said.

The other races in Mobile County include the battle for mayor in Bayou La Batre. Incumbent mayor Stan Wright is facing former city council member Henry Barnes. 

There's also a city council seat up for grabs on Dauphin Island.
