Schools open channels to spread information ahead of storm

(WALA) - Local school systems are trying to keep parents informed as Tropical Storm Isaac approaches the Gulf Coast.

Sunday, Baldwin County schools released a statement and Escambia County, Fla. schools opened a hotline for parents seeking information.

From Baldwin County Schools:

The Baldwin County Public School System works closely with the Baldwin County Emergency Management Agency to prepare for severe weather, including hurricanes. Together we are watching the trajectory of the current tropical storm and how it develops. The EMA would make the call when to evacuate the county and working with EMA, the school system would make an announcement about school closings.

The thing to do now is to remain weather alert as it's uncertain what the storm will do.

We will notify parents from our Digital Communications Center that can ring more than 32,000 phone numbers in less than 10 minutes. We will also work with local media outlets to relay word of any school closings.

The Escambia County, Fla. School System's Storm update hotline can be reached at 469-5306.

The Okaloosa County School System released a statement on their website:

Emergency management is updating the school district constantly regarding Tropical Storm Isaac.  Parents should monitor the district website through the weekend for any school status update.  In addition to this website we will use the automatic call system and local radio and TV stations to keep you informed.  At this time we are planning to have school on Monday but that may change based on weather conditions.

Mobile County, Satsuma, Saraland and Santa Rosa County, Fla. schools have yet to release any information on their plans.
