Tide celebrates 15th national title

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WALA) - The road to 15 championships wasn't an easy one, but the Crimson Tide Football team sure made it look that way in the National Championship game against Notre Dame.

Saturday, the team was back in Tuscaloosa, celebrating the victory with thousands of Tide followers and fans.

The Million Dollar Band, Bama cheerleaders and, of course, the stars of the day: the football players, paraded down University Boulevard to the Walk of Champions in front of Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Fans lined the streets dressed in Tide attire with Roll Tide sunglasses, hats and signs.

“We beat Notre Dame, that’s what made it special, we beat Notre Dame! You know 1966, Notre Dame cheated us out of a championship, we got it back it,” said long-time Alabama fan Virginia Larrirr.

Some of the biggest cheers came when Coach Nick Saban and wife Terry joined the football team on the front steps of the stadium, Saban holding up the third trophy at the university in four years.

During the ceremony, the coach said he is most proud of this national championship team. He said winning a back-to-back championship is one of the hardest tasks to accomplish and this team set their mind to it and came out on top.

For fans and family, it’s a sweet recollection of the team’s hard work.

“He just wanted it so bad and he worked so hard and so dedicated and he sacrificed so much just to walk on. I’m proud of him,” said Alabama football player Rowdy Harrell’s mother, Cindy Harrell.

The celebration concluded with confetti spraying the football players and fans joined and red fire works flying high in the sky.
