TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) - University of Alabama officials say students and employees will gather Aug. 28 for a service to remember those who died in the April 27 tornado and honor community heroes who responded after the storm.
UA spokeswoman Deborah Lane said the event will be held around Palmer Lake on the north side of campus.
The Tuscaloosa News reports Lane says it's the first opportunity for the entire university family to assemble, remember what has been lost, celebrate what has been gained and prepare for the future.
The university held a memorial service Aug. 5 to honor the six UA students who died in the tornado. Lane said the Aug. 28 service will be less formal and will seek to help students remember that they are part of a larger community.
