FLOMATON, Ala. (WALA) - Rhianna Jones and Jerry Tinsley are accused of robbing three banks throughout south Alabama.
One of the robberies happened at a bank in Flomaton. Locals there are glad the suspected robbers are caught and agree it serves them right. They shouldn't mess with small towns.
Life passes by slowly in a small town. But word travels fast. Everybody knows everybody.
So on March 8, when a modern day Bonnie and Clyde robbed the United Bank without even flashing a weapon, just about anybody had an opinion.
"Dumb criminals if you ask me," said one local man.
"If you're gonna do it, do it right!" Tammy Hill. "Why not New York? They have a big ole bank in New York with lots of money!"
Police say Jerry Tinsley and Rhianna Jones later pulled off heists at banks in East Brewton and Florala.
Surveillance pictures from Florala and Flomaton show each crime was similar; the suspects passed a note to the teller, took the money then ran away. The couple was caught and arrested Thursday night by sheriff's deputies in Destin.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office said Tinsley had cocaine and Oxycontin.
"It feels good because people think people can come in and you'll have Barney at the agency, and there's not always Barney at every little agency," Flomaton Police Investigator Mary Hasting said.
Florida deputies are charging Tinsley with possession of a controlled substance, among other charges. Jones is charged with resisting arrest without violence.
Once extradited to Alabama, the duo will face more charges.
"They needed to be caught. Don't be stupid like that. That's stupid," one man said.
"People that are strung out, do crazy things that they shouldn't do," another woman said.
Locals say these suspected crooks should learn a lesson; don't mess with small towns.
Flomaton Police will take their evidence and compare information with other investigators.
An FBI spokesman tells FOX10 News he doesn't know when the two will be extradited to Alabama.
