PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - UPDATE: A couple wanted from Mississippi to the Florida Panhandle have been arrested. Members of the US Marshals Task Force arrested Michael Mitchell and Christina McMillen in New Orleans early Tuesday morning.
The pair were wanted for posing as utility workers and stealing checkbooks from the unsuspecting victims.
Warrants were on file in Escambia County, Florida, Pensacola, Mobile, Gulfport and Virginia.
Police say the couple appeared to target elderly people.
March 11, 2010: In February, we told you that Mobile Police are looking for a man they say stole an elderly couple's checkbook, and cashed thousands of dollars in checks from their account. Now Prichard Police are looking for the same man.
They said 31-year-old Michael Mitchell and 30-year-old Christina McMillen stole thousands of dollars from another elderly victim.
The 94-year-old victim said when a man, who identified himself as Michael Mitchell, knocked on her door, he was very polite.
"He was so nice, really and truly. I thought he was really a helper to me, but then I discovered that this had happened, he was gone," she said.
The victim said Mitchell claimed McMillen was his wife.
"He walked in, my purse was right there on my organ stool, and he went in there and tore him out some checks and left me some, and got a little cash out of there," she said.
The pair was able to get inside the victim's home by telling her they worked for Prichard Water Works. They told her they needed to test her faucets.
"He was going around, he said to check on the hot water heater, while she was coming in to let the water run at the kitchen sink. And she would ask me, 'Do you hear it?' and I said no. So she said, 'Turn it up a little more,' and that was giving him time to do what he had to do," said the victim.
Police said Mitchell and McMillen stole more than $3,300 from the victim, but she knows that what happened to her could have been much worse.
"He didn't attempt to hurt me, and that was the blessed part because he could have killed me. I'm so thankful he didn't hurt me. You can always get some more money, but you can't get another life," she said.
Police say if Mitchell and McMillen knock on your door, do not let them in. The pair may have young children with them, and Mitchell may use an alias.
If you see Michael Mitchell or Christina McMillen, call the Prichard, Mobile, or Pensacola Police Departments, or the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.
