PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - A shooting in Prichard leaves one man dead a month before his 22nd birthday. Sean Cook, known as "Doggie", was killed when he was shot on Hale Drive.
Just after 6:00 Monday night, the 21-year-old Cook was shot a number of times, leaving him dead.
"It hurts because my cousin didn't mess with anyone. He didn't do anything to anybody. He was the good one out of all of them. He was only 21, he was only 21. And the beef is over a girl," said Sean's cousin, who did not want to be identified.
Prichard Police said both men were visiting the home where the shooting occurred.
"Both of them were on foot, and the victim was armed as well," said Latoya Veal with Prichard Police.
Witnesses say the shooting started on the back porch of 701 Hale Drive. The shooting continued down the driveway, and Sean died in the front yard.
"When Sean walked up in this yard, you didn't hear anything but guns shooting. When I came form the side of the house I saw my cousin laying on the ground. I told my cousin, don't die cousin, don't die. He just wanted his mama. That's all he wanted was his mama when he died," Sean's cousin said.
Witnesses said there were a number of people at the house during the shooting, including two infants.
"There were other people in the area at the time of the incident and we're fortunate that no one else was hurt or involved in the incident," said Veal.
But one young man's family said a life was taken away much too soon.
"We grew up together. We were close. He left me, he left me too soon."
Detectives are still investigating and interviewing witnesses. Prichard Police said this was the first homicide this year.
No arrests have been made in the case. If you have any information, contact Prichard Police.
