MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile Police said a man, armed with a gun and with his face concealed, entered the Circle K at 2306 Airport Blvd. on August 7 with the intention of robbing it.
"[He] demanded money while armed with a gun. The cashier complied and gave him money out of the register,” said Ashley Rains with the Mobile Police Department.
Police identified the suspect as Antonio Roach.
MPD said the victim complied with Roach and handed him money from the cash register.
"But then he wanted money from the safe. And when the victim told the suspect the safe was unable to be opened, the suspect then came around the counter and struck the victim in the head with the gun," Rains said.
Police said Roach then went back around the counter and fired one shot toward the victim before fleeing the scene.
Residents who live near the store were shocked to hear about the robbery.
"It's a shame that it happened. She's a nice girl. When I go in at night she's always kind, you know, she's nice to everybody,” said one resident.
The neighbor said crime has increased in his neighborhood, which is near the Circle K store.
"I just wish the police force would patrol the neighborhood a little more, and maybe put a stop to some of it," the neighbor said.
The Circle K manager said the cashier was taken to a nearby hospital, treated for non-life threatening injuries, and released.
Roach, who police said has a history of shooting into a vehicle or dwelling, has been charged with first degree robbery.
