BALDWIN CO., Ala. - On September 26, 2009 at approximately 7:05 p.m. Foley Police Officers made a traffic stop on a red 1997 Chevy S-10. Before the vehicle stopped, the officer noticed the driver throw an object from the passenger's window.
The vehicle stopped and the officer approached the driver, Anthony Lee Taylor, 24 years of age of Bon Secour. The officer also notice a small child in sitting in a child restraint in the passenger side, later identified as Taylor's 1 year old son.
The officer called for backup. When other officers arrived, they found the object that was thrown from the window, 6 tablets of Methadone. They also found a small amount of marijuana.
While still sitting in his vehicle, Taylor started his vehicle and attempted to drive off. The vehicle stalled and officers ran to the vehicle. Taylor started his vehicle again and began driving away.
Cpl. Bobby Erwin grabbed Taylor's shirt and fell as the vehicle drove away.
Cpl. Erwin sustained injuries during the fall and was transported to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center.
Alabama State Troopers spotted Taylor and attempted to stop the vehicle. After Troopers chased the vehicle for several miles, he was stopped near the intersection of County Road 10 and County Road 49.
Taylor resisted arrest and struggled with the Alabama State Trooper and Foley Police Officers.
The child was released to a relative of Taylor's.
Taylor was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana 2nd, Assault 1st, Resisting Arrest.
He will be transported to the Baldwin County Corrections Center.
Cpl. Erwin was admitted to a room overnight for observation.
