MOBILE, Ala. - A lot more is known about what happened Thursday, thanks to some brand new surveillance video and pictures of the robbery in progress.
In less than 30 minutes, a police chase to catch an armed bank robber was over, the bandit was dead in his bullet riddled car. Now we know where the crime started and ended.
Pictures from inside the RBC bank at Old Shell and McGregor show a masked man pointing a gun at tellers. Police said that man is James Hill. The time is 3:02 p.m.
This is the start of a more than 10 mile long chase that would end Hill's life. From the intersection of Old Shell and McGregor, Hill headed West on Old Shell Road.
Less than two miles away, it appeared the chase would be over. Police said the suspect pulled into the post office but decided to keep on going and headed towards University Boulevard.
That wasn't the case. That's where the chase really starts to pick up once Hill reached Hillcrest Road. From there, Hill crossed Airport, Cottage Hill and Girby Roads with a line of squad cars on his tail.
Police said Hill tossed cash out of the window and brandished a weapon, waving it at police. Video shows a gas mask on the ground near the intersection and an officer picking up the cash.
Witnesses said around 3:15 p.m. the chase made its way to Hillcrest and Three Notch Roads, where the suspect made a left. Video surveillance at an automotive shop on Three Knotch Road picked up the chase. In that video you can see Hill's dark sedan followed by 14 police cars.
The chase would be over in minutes, after Hill crashed his car near Three Knotch Road and Highway 90, in the parking lot of a church.
Witnesses to Thursday's deadly police chase said it was movie like, and hard to believe. Tabitha Richardson couldn't sleep last night, after a very close call with a stray bullet.
" Real hard to come here this morning, to approach the scene. I work at a daycare, how dangerous can it be?" asked Richardson.
It turns outin this case: life threatening. Thursday's high speed police chase ended just feet from Kidz Korner daycare in Tillman's Corner.
"I was under this window here when the bullet lodged in that window and shattered all in the bathroom where I was," said Richardson.
Richardson said not only did the bullet come close to her, but to the dozens of kids inside the daycare and babies not old enough to walk. Richardson said several students are out Friday, still upset over the whole thing.
Jim Wrighter owns the car wash next door to Kidz Korner, and was also caught in the crossfire.
"It was real scary. Because I came out here to watch, then figured its not a good place to be, so I got behind my truck," said Wrighter.
Wrighter said several bullets nailed his building, and from start to finish it was over in 30 seconds.
What happened in those 30 seconds will be hard to forget for people around this area, like Richardson.
"I just remember my boss saying, 'Everybody get down, there's bullets flying everywhere!'" added Richardson.
It will also take a lot longer than 30 seconds for police to close the case.
