DAPHNE, Ala. - Daphne police are still on the lookout for two men who they believe are responsible for breaking into several cars at a hotel parking lot. One thing officials do know, however, is that the break ins could have been prevented.
It doesn't take much, but police say some people are just not getting it.
Last Tuesday, officers say two men driving a gray minivan went to the parking lot at Hilton Garden Inn in Daphne. They went to a number cars and trucks to see which ones were unlocked, and then they hit the jackpot.
They eventually stole a Nissan Titan, took what they could from inside, and burned it. Officers found the remains of the truck in Loxley.
"People get out of the habit, and feel comfortable with where they are at, but that's what thieves look for: an easy target," said Jud Beedy with Daphne Police.
But people like Pam Moore understand why some folks don't lock their doors.
"I leave my keys in the car sometimes. I just trust people," said Moore. "I know it's not safe."
Since the latest incident, however, her thoughts are changing.
"Oh, geesh. Makes you not want to trust people anymore. I am going to lock my car and take my stuff out of it."
Police say the suspects stole other items from several other cars, but no arrests have been made. They even think the suspects are connected to a similar crime at another hotel.
