DPD: Students threatened, school placed on lockdown

DAPHNE, Ala. (WALA) - UPDATE: Police said they have arrested Richard Brett Langley.

Daphne High School went into a modified lockdown after police said a former student threatened current students. It all has to do with stolen laptops.

He never stepped foot on campus, but threats allegedly made by Richard Brett Langley have some students worried.

"The principal of Daphne High School called, she had some students in her office. They were concerned because they had heard about some threats that Mr. Langley had made in reference to them and this investigation," said Lt. Jud Beedy.

Langley is currently wanted on multiple felony warrants. Police said he stole six laptops belonging to the Baldwin County Board of Education, and they said he stole them from students he knew.

"He's made threats to and about these students electronically and in person through third parties which is what we're investigating," Beedy said.

Daphne police remained on campus this afternoon. Beedy said now, Langley could be facing even more charges.

"There's a whole bunch of range of charges it could be anything from terroristic threat to intimidating a witness to harassment. We have to get to the source and find out before that determination is made," Beedy said.

Beedy said the department is aggressively pursuing Langley.

Langley graduated from Daphne High School last year. Police said the computer thefts took place over the Thanksgiving holiday. The Macbooks are estimated at $1,200 apiece and have since been recovered.
