Day of Rememberance to be held in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - A Day of Remembrance was held Tuesday night at Cathedral Square in Downtown Mobile. Folks came out to pay tribute to those they have lost to crime.

FOX10 News has profiled four of those families who helped organize the event and start a support group to help families deal with loss.

The support group made 250 blue and white ribbons for everyone to wear. They ran out before the event even started. This just shows you how many people have been affected by crime.

There was a board with pictures of eachperson lost and it was overflowing onto tables. In the midst of all of it the families connected with one another and showed their support.

They came from all over Mobile and Baldwin Counties. All from different backgrounds and ages but they have one thing in common; They know the pain of having a loved one taken. One by one they shared their stories and a happy memory of the one they lost.  

A sign up sheet on hand allowed people to join the support group aimed at helping those who need a shoulder to cry on.

The families lit candles that showed although their loved ones were gone, they were not forgotten.

In the week leading up to the event, FOX10 News introduced you to the founding members of the support group. Laurie Miller, Terri Lewis, Sylinda Parish and Janet Baker. They left the event with about a hundred new members.
