Man shot, killed on Moreno Street

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Authorities said a shooting on X Street on December 8 left 31-year-old Angelo Gallaway dead at a home on Moreno Street.

It all began around 6:40 p. m. when deputies responded to shots fired at the corner of X Street and Mallory Street, right across from Carrie Holley's home.

She said when she moved into her home more than 10 years ago, it was a good neighborhood. Since then, she said things have taken a turn for worse.

“It’s really scary, but it’s mostly sad for someone to lose their life like that,” said Holley.

Holley and other neighbors said the whole area was blocked off by deputies, making it difficult for some residents to just get back in their homes.

“First, it sounded like a little gun and then it sounded like a big cannon going off," Holley said.

Sgt. Mike Ward with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office says investigators believe the crime was drug related.

“If you’re involved in criminal activity, especially drugs, you’re going to attract this type of behavior where people are willing to take other people’s lives for it,” said Holley.

Holley said her grandchildren often stay with her and this crime makes her worried about their safety.

“It could happen to my kids. So when stuff like that happens it’s just sad and it’ll probably end up being something not worth losing your life for,” Holley said.

Deputies said the Gun Crime Response Team is investigating the crime and more details are pending.
