PENSACOLA, Fla (WALA) -
Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies say the parking lot of a post office was the sight of a shootout around 3 a. m. Saturday morning.

They say it happened as a man sat in his car, waiting for his girlfriend to come out of this local bar across the street.

“He was approached by three black males who were all armed. They opened his door and demanded he get out. He then floored the car,” said Matt Baxter with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say the victim didn’t get far, crashing into multiple cars and coming to a stop.

“When he did that, they opened fire. After he crashed, he had a firearm with him and returned fire,” Baxter said.

Deputies say the victim was struck once and the suspects ran away. When authorities got to the scene, the victim told them what happened.
Officials say the brazenness of the crime is shocking.

“It’s extremely dangerous to fire into a moving vehicle. You never know where that vehicle will end up,” said Baxter, “This is a rare incident; it’s not common that you see two parties firing back and forth."

That’s why deputies hope to find the violent suspects and fast.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening wounds.

If you have any information on the crime, contact the Escambia County Sheriff's Office or the Gulf Coast Crime Stoppers.
