PENSACOLA, Fla. - A meth lab exploded Wednesday morning in Pensacola, leaving behind a pile of rubble. Investigators say it was run by a mother and son.
It happened on Muldoon Road and Nicholas Avenue.
Investigators pulled the evidence and left it outside the home. It's basic household chemicals, ammonium nitrate, salt, drano. All that caused the home to explode.
Edie Herrington rented this small home on her property out to a mother and a son. She awoke Wednesday morning to find her family home on fire.
"All I can see is fire trucks, my yard is full of red lights," she said.
It wasn't until later she found out it was a meth lab.
"I had no clue or they would have been out of there," Herrington added.
Herrington says 22-year-old Dakota Heidbreder and his mother were inside. Heidbreder had burns on more than 60 percent of his body. His mother appears to be okay.
Investigators believe the son was making meth in the kitchen when the home exploded.
The suspect is recovering at USA Medical Center. Once he's released, he'll face criminal charges. The mother is also facing manufacturing of methamphetamine charges.
