MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) - A murder suspect's mother will stay in jail for at least a few more days. A Mobile County Judge rescheduled a bond hearing for Felicia Lee. She's accused of threatening a witness twice.
Lee appeared before Mobile County Circuit Court Judge Charles McKnight Monday, not as the mother of a murder suspect, but as a suspect herself.
"July 25, she drove by the witness's house and said she was going to kill her," said Assistant District Attorney Ashley Rich. "Security was intense at the preliminary hearing, and she walks downstairs to the parking lot and confronts the witness again."
The Mobile County district attorney's office said one incident happened right after a hearing for Lee's son, Michael.
Michael Lee's co-defendants named him the trigger man in the death of Kyser Miree.
The state said Felicia Lee threatened to kill a witness in the capital murder case.
Lee's sister, Tiffany Spears, said her sister didn't do anything, that it's all part of the state trying to make its case.
"It's a lie. I was with my sister Wednesday after court. I walked her to her car. Totally a lie," said Spears.
The district attorney's office said Felicia Lee should be kept behind bars for now.
"We believe she is not going to stop and have very grave concerns for all parties involved," said Rich.
Despite her family's wishes, Judge McKnight rescheduled Felicia's bond hearing until she can hire a lawyer, which means Lee will stay in jail at least a few more days.
"It is a lie. My sister is sick and now's she's got to stay until the 26. This is not right," said Spears.
The district attorney's office said in this case, it's about doing what's right for the witness.
Felicia is scheduled back in court Thursday, August 26.
