ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. - Escambia County deputies thought they were looking for three missing children. What they found at a residence was almost indescribable.
21-year-old Christian Rochelle Woods admitted during questioning that she had thrown her daughter, 18-month-old Myleahya Woods into her backyard trash can.
Woods left her 18-month-old daughter along with her twin sister Mykayhla, and 2-year-old son Jaterius, home alone for over three days.
After finding her child dead, Woods disposed of her in the garbage can when.
At a Tuesday press conference, Escambia County Sheriff, David Morgan, described what deputies found when they went to the home.
“We found that when she left these children in the home that there were approximately six cups of jello opened and left in the living room for these children to eat, with no water and no juice,” Morgan said.
According to authorities there was no electricity or running water in the house.
Woods initially called deputies on Monday to report her three children missing or possibly abducted. She claimed that she had left them with family and friends while she was in Mobile working. When her stories didn’t add up, deputies became suspicious of foul play.
It was only after admitting to what she had done, hours later, that deputies returned to the home to retrieve the toddler’s body from a trash can. At that time the child’s twin sister was discovered in a comatose state, under a bed. Deputies thought that that child, Mykayhla, was also dead when they found her.
“Normally, you don’t move a body, if you will, for obvious reasons, for the crime scene folks, but the determination was made that they had to and the child did a fluttering of the eyes and then, of course, investigators knew the child was alive,” said Sheriff Morgan
The 2-year-old brother suffered from a large bump on the head and dehydration. The two surviving children were taken to area hospitals for be treated.
Neighbors say that Woods had only lived there for a little over a year. Pablo Garcia lives next door.
“She was a real quiet person and the kids, we hardly ever saw the kids. The kids hardly ever came out and it’s unusual because we have kids roaming around the yard and you would think they would want to come out and be with the kids too,” said Garcia.
Charlotte Potter lives across the street and never had a clue about the neglect.
“Whenever you would see her she would speak. She was soft spoken. One time I gave her a jump. Her car wouldn’t start and she was very appreciative. You would never, ever suspect it,” Potter said.
Woods is in the Escambia County Jail on no bond. She is charged
with two counts of 1st degree, felony, aggravated child abuse and
one count of manslaughter. More charges may be pending.
