MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) - A bank robbery triggers a lunchtime manhunt in Mobile. It happened at RBC Bank at the corner of Moffett and Schillinger Roads Wednesday morning.
Police say RBC Bank was robbed shortly before 11:00 a.m.
Homes and businesses immediately went into lock-down.
"I just came out the door to go to work and an officer come around and told me to get back in the house. As I was going back to get back into the house, he come up and told me it was a bank robbery," said witness Brenton Burton.
Police say the suspect showed the teller a note, demanded money, and left the bank.
Azalea City Christian School is right across the street.
"I got on the intercom and alerted our teachers. We locked down all our doors, closed the mini blinds and all the children were inside," said Sarah Myers.
Police searched high and low for nearly an hour before finding 32-year-old Michael Shaughnessy.
People who live and work near the bank are thankful it was a peaceful ending.
"I'm glad they caught him because like I told him, I was about to cut the grass and I don't know if somebody was going to come up through these woods," said Bryan.
Police say Shaugnessy tried to getaway on foot. They found him in a subdivision not too far from his home. Officers tell us they were able to recover the money that was stolen.
