PASCAGOULA, Miss. (AP) - A Gulf Coast 16-year-old has been convicted of murder in the death of a Hattiesburg man who was shot after he stopped to ask for directions last year.

Jackson County Circuit Judge Dale Harkey sentenced Darwin Wells to life in prison for the death of Michael David Porter. WLOX-TV reports the verdict came Thursday after hours of deliberation.

Linda Porter testified at trial this week that her husband got out of the car and was approached by three young men in the parking lot of a convenience store. She said she saw one of them fired a shot. She did not identify him.

Wells was one of four teens accused in the case, but was the first to go on trial.
