MOBILE, Ala. - Mobile police say a man held a five-month-old infant hostage, after getting into an argument with his girlfriend.
Officers say they were called to a residence on White Street on Friday morning, around 12:20. The woman told dispatchers that her boyfriend, Kevin Britford, has assaulted her several times while they were in the car. She told officers Britford had hit her in the face several times, and bit her on the shoulder before she was able to escape.
As the victim ran off, Britford allegedly took the infant and locked himself inside, and said he was armed with a handgun.
Almost three hours later, members of the Tactical Response Unit were able to get through the door. They found Britford inside, holding the baby. They were able to arrest him without incident. The baby was not harmed.
Britford is charged with second degree domestic violence, endangering the welfare of a child. He was also arrested for nine outstanding misdemeanor warrants.
