A mother accused of throwing her dead child away in a trashcan was in court Friday. 21-year-old Christian Woods plead not guilty to the charges. Her family spoke out and said she's a good mother
A strong showing of friends and family members stood behind 21-year-old Christian Woods as she stood before a judge.
"She is a very good mom, very good," her aunt, Ernestine Abbot said.
Investigators say she left her three children home alone for three days, with nothing but a few cups of jello to eat. They say her 18 month old daughter Myleahya died of malnutrition, then Woods threw her body in the trash. Investigators also say the two other children, Mykayla and Jeterius were found extremely malnourished and dehydrated.
Woods' counselor says all Woods thinks about now is her children.
"She's just very concerned about them and custody and everything, but she loves her kids and misses her kids," Carolyn Williams said.
What shook some of the family the most was Woods' next court date actually falls on one of her children's birthdays. An unidentified family member yelled out in the courtroom. "You realize that your son's birthday, child." Judge Frank Bell said, "Ma'am we don't need any comments from you."
Woods court date is still set for February 16 with a trial set to begin March 1.
Woods will remain in the Escambia jail on $250 thousand bond. She faces a murder charge, and two cruelty counts.
