MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) - Prichard Police Detectives say information from the public led them to the suspect in a double murder investigation in Prichard.

Corey Henderson was arrested at the Red Roof Inn in Tillmans Corner Wednesday morning about 11:30 a.m.

Henderson is accused of killing brothers, Willis and Willie Hampton January 23. Police report shots were fired that night around 8:20 p.m. in the area of Dial Street and Barnes Street. When they arrived, officers found the Hampton brothers dead inside a crashed car. Both had been shot multiple times.

Three other people, including a 14-year-old girl, were also inside the car. Police say they were not injured.

Prichard’s Police Chief Jimmie Gardner told FOX10 News officers found a large amount of crack cocaine in the victim’s car and that may have been the reason for the murders.

“I believe that they were sending a message in terms of where they were, and that turf that they were on belongs to them," Chief Gardner said last week.

Tips from the community led detectives to the Red Roof Inn.  With the help of the Mobile County Sheriff's Office, officers surrounded the hotel and arrested Henderson without incident.

Henderson is being charged with two counts of murder, attempted murder and persons forbidden.

Anyone with additional information pertaining to this shooting is asked to call the Prichard Police Department at 251-452-2211.
