PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - Prichard Police have confirmed to FOX10 News that an investigation is underway in an officer-involved shooting that left a suspect dead.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on Monday at the Citgo service station on Martin Luther King Ave.

Police Chief Jimmie Gardner said police received a call of a man with a gun in the store, and that the man had approached another patron of the store with the weapon.

Gardner says when officers arrived, several orders were given and the suspect didn't comply. Gardner says the suspect held onto his weapon and an officer fired, hitting the suspect.

Gardner says the man was pronounced dead at a local hospital. His identity is not being released at this time.
