SPANISH FORT, Ala. - A Christmas Eve high-speed chase led authorities across two states. Police say a woman robbed a shop in Pensacola then hit the highway, attempting to flee into the night.
Authorities from two states had to use a spike strip to get 35-year-old Jennifer McCullough under control.
Escambia County, Florida authorities chased her some 40 miles west, into Baldwin County. That's when Alabama officers put out the strip.
"The tires slowly deflated. She continued for several miles. I am not sure about the distance. But she came to a stop eventually," said Lt. Doug Phillips.
However, authorities could not get the spike strip out the road, so several other civilian drivers received flat tires as well.
"Our main goal was to stop the pursuit and stop anyone else from getting harmed. I'd rather people's tires be on flat than a crash to occur," said Phillips.
Police finally tased her and took her in. They say McCullough will face a round robin of charges, including felony eluding police. McCullough is now waiting for extradition to Florida.
One other footnote: two other Baldwin County sheriff deputies units were also damaged.
