SPANISH FORT, Ala. (WALA) - A woman charged with inflicting an “immense amount of physical abuse” on an elderly victim is in custody of the Baldwin County Sheriff’s office.
Martha McPherson, of Spanish Fort, is charged with abuse and neglect of an elder and second-degree domestic violence.
McPherson’s 72-year-old alleged victim was transported to Thomas Hospital by ambulance where hospital staff observed numerous marks, abrasions, lacerations, skin tears and scars.
The BCSO said the elderly man also advised staff he had been deprived of food and water for quite some time.
Investigators learned that McPherson was charged with the victim’s care and lived with him in Spanish Fort. Authorities said, through her cooperation, sufficient probable cause was established.
Authorities said the victim is in the hospital in stable condition. McPherson is in the Baldwin County jail with no bond.
