MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Police say officers working security outside of Club Casino on Tanner Road requested back-up and called for Mobile Fire-Rescue around three Sunday morning after a fight.
Police said 29-year-old Raymond Boykin stepped in to break-up one fight, and then became a victim in another. Police said he was struck in the head and killed by Jeremy McDaniels, who is now charged with manslaughter.
“They had a 29 year-old male who was unconscious after being struck in the head,” said Corporal Christopher Levy, Mobile Police Department.
The officers were outside the club when they were notified of the problem inside.
“What we know from that incident is these two females got into some bit of an altercation. Our victim in this particular incident helped separate the females that were in the fight,” said Levy. “Our suspect then punched our victim in the head with his fist, knocking him unconscious and he later died from those injuries."
Police arrested 31-year-old McDaniels; he was released on bond.
FOX10 News tried contacting the owner of Club Casino to see if they had anything to say about this incident. The person who answered the phone said the owner was out of town and had no comment.
Mobile police homicide detectives continue to investigate the incident.
