PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Update: September 21, 2012: Denarius Mason was turned himself in at the Pensacola Police Department around 6 p.m. Thursday.
One suspect is behind bars and the other is currently wanted by Pensacola police for allegedly robbing a taxi driver.
Police said 20-year-old Ronneka Sade Lavern Hill surrendered last night and they’re still looking for 17-year-old Denarius Mason.
Police said the 44-year-old female cab driver told them she went to pick the suspects up on Rosewood Circle early Sunday morning and drove to Woodland Drive where the two suspects got out of the vehicle.
The driver told police the male suspect pulled out a handgun and ordered her onto the ground.
Police said the driver complied and as she did so, she heard the female say, “Shoot her!” several times, but he didn’t.
The male suspect then grabbed the victim by the hair and forced her to get into the trunk, which was then closed with her inside according to authorities. They said the victim heard the suspects get into the cab, and when she heard them leave, she was able to open the trunk and escape.
Authorities said an undisclosed amount of cash and other items were taken from the cab.
Police said Ronneka is being charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, kidnapping, grand theft, vehicle theft, carjacking with a firearm, and battery.
In the meantime, FOX10 sat down with Mason’s grandfather, Nelson Bryant, who said he hasn’t seen his grandson in almost two years.
He said Mason used to live with him and at that time, he never had trouble with the teen.
“It’s stunning to me to hear he got himself into something like that that he can’t get himself out of until he does the right thing,” said Bryant.
He advises Mason to turn himself in.
Anyone having information on the incident is asked to contact the Pensacola Police Department at 435 – 1900.
