MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - On Monday, a little boy will turn one, but his mother won't be there to celebrate his first year of life.

Twenty-three-year-old Cynthia McCoy was found shot dead inside her apartment on Labor Day. Police said the child and his sister witnessed it.

Now, Mobile police are looking for Deon Holmes as a person of interest.

McCoy’s mother Wynne Shamburger said, "The loss of your child, I don't know if I'll ever be whole again. That's just the pain that I'm going through there."

Authorities hope Holmes, 20, can provide some answers; he is a person of interest. If you have any information as to his whereabouts, call Mobile police.

Police believe he was the last person to see McCoy alive.

McCoy's mother said she has never heard of him. She said her daughter made many friends, but she wants to hear any information he may have.

Shamburger said, "All we want to do is ask you some questions. Why are you running? Why don't you just come in? If you got nothing to hide, why don't you just come in and talk to them?"

In the meantime, the family is taking in donations. The money was going toward a memorial, but instead, they're putting it towards a reward. If you'd like to donate to McCoy’s family, accounts have been set up at Hancock and Whitney banks.

"We don't know the amount right now, but whatever it is, it's yours. Just please, let's find out who did this," Shamburger said.

She said there aren't many leads in the case yet, but she wants her daughter’s story to remain relevant.

Somebody murdered her daughter, somebody knows information and, she feels, somebody deserves to go to jail.
