PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - UPDATE, Feb. 25, 11:53 a.m.: Pensacola Police have identified a person of interest in the shooting death investigation of 29-year-old Alexia Baggett, who was found shot to death on L St. on Saturday.
Police said they are looking for Warren Hetherington, the victim's ex-boyfriend.
Earlier: Pensacola Police are investigating the shooting death of a woman who was found outside of a home Saturday night, her death marks the city's first homicide this year, according to police.
Officials said the body of the female victim, Alexia Baggett, was lying in L Street just after 11:30 p.m.
Tynasha Flournoy, 9, was playing video games with a cousin inside her home when gunfire erupted outside. She says she saw the victim immediately after the shooting.
“I heard what sounded like a firecracker. I looked out the window and a lady was on her knees with blood coming out of her head. It was gushing on the ground,” said Flournoy.
Neighbors say the woman was lying in a driveway.
“I started crying and I got on my knees and started praying that she’d be OK. I went under my bed because I didn’t want to get hurt," Flournoy said. "I feel heartbroken and really sad. I try not to think about it but it keeps coming back in my head."
The crime has shaken the community, which many folks say is usually quiet.
Minnie Sapp lives just down the road from the scene of the crime. Her family actually knew the victim, who she says was a mother of two.
“It hurt me. I’m scared because my daughter just had a baby,” said Sapp. "(The victim) was a good girl. She didn't deserve this," said Sapp.
PPD Lt. Doug Baldwin said authorities are pursuing leads related to her death, and additional details will be released as they become available.
