MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - The preliminary hearing for Pat Brown, the man police identified as the driver in the murder of Wendy Fisher, has been delayed. According to officials, details of the shooting will be released during the hearing.
Defense attorney Jason Darley was assigned to the case Wednesday after it turned out Brown did not have an attorney.
Brown told Judge Bob Sherling that he had an attorney, but when that attorney was called, he said Brown had not paid him.
“Based on my involvement at this time, it was bumped over to Tuesday. I put in a continuance request,” said Darley.
Darley said he absolutely wants to have a preliminary hearing to hear some of the evidence against his client.
Brown’s family said they will be with him through the entire process.
“I’m going to stand behind him 100 percent. Told him to keep his head up, stay proud; we’re here,” said Brown’s brother Deandre.
Deandre Brown said he is ready for the process to begin.
“You can only say so much. But at the same time, you have to prove my brother is guilty. My brother is innocent. I refuse to let anyone drag him down. We’re going to go through this process,” he said.
Fisher died in front of her Racine Avenue home in July. Mobile police said Fisher was yelling at a vehicle to slow down in her neighborhood. Police believe Brown was the driver of that vehicle and that Trayon Washington was the shooter. Washington's case has been bound over to a grand jury. Both are charged with murder.
Brown's preliminary hearing is now set for Tuesday, October 9.
