DAPHNE, Ala. (WALA) - Daphne Police arrested a registered sex offender after the man apparently ignored police and worked in a neighborhood full of children.
Police said 54-year-old Michael Douglas was working as a power-washer in Daphne. Douglas was warned by police to follow the rules.
"He told him due to the nature of his business that every time he acquired a job in the city of Daphne, he would have to notify us where he is working in a restricted area," said Lt. Jud Beedy.
Police said however, Douglas didn't. A resident in the TimberCreek neighborhood notified police that Douglas was where he shouldn't be.
"She had actually hired him and she found out of his background and we told her he wouldn't be able to work at her house. She then saw him at a neighbor’s home and realized he shouldn't be there," said Beedy.
Douglas was charged with 5 counts, for every job he did in the neighborhood. Lt. Jud Beedy said, Douglas is also being prosecuted on the charges on the federal level.
"We're not going to just let anyone come in here and do what they want to. We are going to do our best to send a message. You have to comply in the city of Daphne. Sex offenders, you really have to comply," Beedy said.
Douglas is currently being held on no bond in the Baldwin County Corrections Facility.
According to the National Sex Offender Registry, Douglas was charged and convicted of 1st degree sexual abuse involving a 13-year-old girl in Kentucky.
