PRICHARD, Ala. (WALA) - Authorities in Prichard are investigating a shooting death that happened overnight Saturday.

Prichard Police Department said they responded to a call around 11 p.m. on Saturday and found Alfred T. Johnson shot several times near his car on Sweeney Cir.

Johnson, 35, was conscious and alert when police arrived. He told police he had exchanged gunfire with unknown subjects somewhere the MLK and Coal St. area.

Johnson later succumbed to his gunshot wounds at USA Medical Center.
