MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile police said a shooting victim has died from complications related to his gunshots while the suspects who shot him are still at large.

The investigation is now treated as a homicide.

Ray Nicholson, Sr. said his son Ray Nicholson, Jr. spent a number of days in intensive care after he was shot. He said he was eventually released and spent some time at home. Then, he said the unexpected happened.

"He had a seizure here. And we called the ambulance. He had contracted pneumonia, and he had a couple of seizures at the hospital. His body just couldn't take it,” said Nicholson, Sr.

On Oct. 12, Nicholson was shot in the chest after three teens approached him and another victim to commit a robbery, according to authorities. The two victims were sitting on the front porch in the 2100 block of Mimosa St.

One of the victims said the teens walked up to his front gate with their guns drawn and demanded property.

The victim’s family said they cherished the time they had with their son after he was released from the hospital.

"We are going to miss him. We loved him and he loved us,” said Nicholson.

If there is anyone who knows something, Nicholson, Sr. urges you to come forward.

"Don't be afraid. You won't have to give your name. Come forward with some information so we can get these guys off the street. They need to be off the street because they can do the same thing to your family,” said Nicholson, Sr.

If anyone has information about the incident, please call the Mobile Police Department at 208-7211.
