PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - Escambia County Sheriff’s Office said a brother and sister were rebooked for another stay in jail half an hour after they were released.
Johnnie and Jennie Kennie were originally booked on disturbing the peace and resisting arrest charges following an incident in court and released two hours later on bond. Shortly after their release, deputies booked the pair again.
The incident started while Johnnie and Jennie Kennie were in court during the murder trial of Daniel Ward.
Deputies said Johnnie Kennie began creating a disturbance inside the courtroom.
"On several occasions, he was warned by the deputies to stop. He was asked to leave but continued creating a disturbance throughout the courthouse," said Deputy Matt Baxter with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said Johnnie Kennie began acting aggressively and yelling profanity.
When deputies tried to arrest him, he tried to flee. They said Jennie Kennie yelled at the deputies to “get off her brother” and interfered with the arrest despite warnings not to.
"After being booked into the Escambia County jail, they both bonded out. They then began getting into a dispute over money with the jail staff," Baxter said.
Deputies said Johnnie Kennie didn’t like that the jail kept $50 that he had on his person when they booked him to be put toward $200 he owed the jail from his previous stay.
Authorities said the argument got worse.
When deputies responded, they say Johnnie Kennie again tried to flee but, instead of police, his pants and shoes restrained him. He fell face first in the road.
But it wasn't over.
The ECSO said, as officers moved to arrest him, Jennie Kennie attempted to clothesline a deputy while Carrie Clements jumped on his back.
All three were soon arrested and taken back to Escambia County Jail.
Baxter said the incident surprised deputies.
"I've never seen anything like this. Usually, when they're getting bonded out of here, they've calmed down pretty well. Most of the time, they just want to get out of here, and they don't want to come back," said Baxter.
When deputies arrested them, all three were charged with disturbing the peace and resisting an officer without violence.
