MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - UPDATE: February 15, 2013 - Mobile Police say the suspects in the Springhill Ave. and Ann St. carjacking, Emmett Jackson, 19, and Gamiran Young, 20, have been charged with first degree robbery.
October 17, 2012 - A carjacking victim is in good spirits Thursday because his vehicle was returned to him intact.
Wednesday night, Anthony Beverly's vehicle was stolen by two suspects with a gun. Later, the same night, another man was robbed at gunpoint.
Beverly was sitting at a red light in Midtown at Springhill Avenue and Ann Street, when he had some unexpected hitchhikers.
"The two guys jumped into my car because my top was down. They just dived over into the car," Beverly said.
He said the men ordered him to give them a ride before pulling a gun on him; he said one of the suspects pointed a pistol at his torso.
Beverly said, "I really was scared to try to flinch or anything because I knew, if were to go off, there's no telling if I was going to survive."
Instead, Beverly jumped out and the men took off in his car.
Less than 24 hours later, the victim has his 1975 Pontiac Convertible back. Prichard police found the vehicle in the backyard of an abandoned home.
Prichard Police Chief Jimmie Gardner said investigators were working another case in the neigborhood when a detective spotted the convertible.
"In most cases, when these vehicles are stolen they are taken to abandoned homes and areas and stripped at the location," Gardner said.
Prichard police recovered a weapon matching description of the one used in the crime but the suspects in this and another robbery at Dauphin Street are still at large.
Two black male suspects, who were both about 5'6" in height and weighed about 145 pounds, are suspected in the carjacking.
The second incident occurred at Dauphin Street and Kenneth Street around 10:50 p.m. on Wednesday.
A male victim was walking home when he was approached by an unknown male. The suspect produced a handgun and demanded his property. That suspect was last seen going north on Kenneth Street towards Old Shell Rd.
The suspect in the second incident is described as a 175 pound, 6-foot tall brown-skinned male with low cut hair.
As for Beverly, he's just happy he got his ride back.
