MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Mobile police said a teen robbed four people he knew of credit cards, cell phones and money behind a gas station on Dauphin Island Parkway.
Police arrested Travis Chatman, Jr. Tuesday. They said his story began last week with a meeting to settle a debt.
“Last Thursday, July 19, Mr. Chatman met up with four individuals known to him, actually to settle a dispute over some property,” said Ashley Rains, spokesperson with the Mobile Police Department.
Somehow, that meeting violently escalated.
“Mr. Chatman actually produced a handgun, threatened all four of the victims,” said Rains.
Police said Chatman took the victims cell phones, credit cards and wallets.
“We were able to identify him. He was picked up yesterday and questioned and has been arrested for robbery first,” said Rains.
Investigators said no one was injured. They also said it's the first time Chatman's been booked into Metro Jail. He is currently being held without bond.
“We would actually caution anybody that does have a dispute over property or any kind of dispute with a group of people. This may not be the best way to go about solving your issues,” Rains said.
Police said to call them if you have a dispute involving property.
“Because as you can see, this can be dangerous. There was a gun used in this crime. People's possessions were taken, and thankfully, nobody was injured,” said Rains.
