Police: Incident is an attempted murder-suicide

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WALA) - The Pensacola Police Department said a man is dead, and a woman is in serious condition following what police are calling an attempted murder-suicide.

Early Wednesday morning, 22-year-old Anthony Ayala was found dead on Gerhardt Drive.  Police said he'd been shot in the head.

Next to him, police said they found a woman with multiple gunshot wounds.  She was transported to a local hospital.

Gerald Minks who lives across the street from the scene said he saw the victim and suspect after the alleged incident.

"They were laying (at the house) just not quite up underneath the carport, but not quite where the trash cans are, right there on the driveway," Minks said.

Minks has lived near the corner of Munro Road and Gerhardt Drive for about two and a half years.

Wednesday morning, Minks woke up to gunshots.

"I heard three loud, concussive noises back-to-back, and went running around the house seeing if someone was banging on something, and then by the time I started coming [outside] there was a cop who pulled up," Minks said.

Minks struggles with wrapping his mind around the scene.

"To actually see cops here with guns drawn, especially in a place like this, I mean, the most that has happened since I've been here is every once in a while you have a kid play like a prank or something, but nothing like that," Minks said.

Police said the investigation is on-going and they're treating the incident as a homicide.
