MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) - The University of South Alabama student accused of stabbing and killing a man in a campus dorm pleaded not guilty Thursday. Brandon Ajizadeh is charged with first degree murder.

Campus police say Ajizadeh called 911 to report the stabbing around 6 a.m. Sunday morning. When officers arrived, they found James Dean, III stabbed to death in a Delta 6 apartment.

Campus police reported Sunday, during their investigation Ajizadeh admitted to stabbing Dean. Ajizadeh's attorney claims his client was acting in self defense, but the District Attorney's office disagrees.

The DA says Dean was stabbed 25 times with a butcher knife.

Ajizadeh will have a preliminary hearing on August 3. He remains in Mobile Metro County Jail on $150,000 bond.
