Zoa White case bound over to grand jury

MOBILE, Alabama (WALA) - The case against Carlos Kennedy, the man accused of murdering Zoa White, has been bound over to a grand jury.

Mobile Police believe Kennedy busted a kitchen window and crawled into White's home and brutally beat her to death with a hammer in her Springhill Avenue home back in June.

The retired realtors body was found "mostly nude" inside the Springhill Avenue home.

Police said blood found at the scene connected Kennedy to the murder.

"The window leading into the kitchen had been broken and he had a cut on his finger. Little drops of blood were found throughout the house and it matched his," said Assistant District Attorney, Jo Beth Murphree.

Police said at first Kennedy tried to deny knowing the victim. Then he told detectives he had only been inside the home to help the victim carry a box of lamps.

"He said he was walking down the street and she asked him to move a box of lamps upstairs," said Murphree.

Kennedy's story would change again, drastically when detectives asked how his bloody fingerprints ended up on White's body.

"Detective said why would your fingerprints be on her leg in blood? He said we were having consensual sex," said Murphree.

The district attorney's office said there is no evidence to support that claim.

After the hearing, White's daughter handed out cards in memory of her slain mother.

Kennedy's case has been sent to a grand jury.

White's daughter did not want to be interviewed after the hearing, instead passing out a small card that reads:

Zoa White - June 28, 2010 "A life cut short."
