TRUSSVILLE, Ala. - Alabama's school superintendent of the year has received her second raise since March despite complaints that her compensation is excessive.

The Trussville Board of Education voted unanimously Monday to raise Superintendent Suzanne Freeman's compensation to $185,000 annually. Freeman was named the state's top school administrator earlier this year.

But the president of the Jefferson County American Federation of Teachers, Vi Parramore, said the increased salary is too high for an administrator who only oversees four schools with about 4,000 students total.

The chairman of the Trussville school board, John Floyd, said Freeman's raise was based on her being an experienced superintendent in the school system.
