Davidson wins HiQ match

CITRONELLE, Ala. (WALA) - The gymnasium at Citronelle High School was full Wednesday morning to see a close contest in the HiQ academic contest.

Davidson High School jumped to an early lead, and led Theodore by 8 points at halftime of the match.

Citronelle had a strong second half, but no one could catch the team from Davidson.

The final score was Davidson 44, Theodore 22 and Citronelle 17.

All 15 teams participating in HiQ have now completed the first round of competition.

Baker is in first place, followed by Murphy, Bryant, Davidson, McGill-Toolen, Leflore, Blount, Mary G. Montgomery, Theodore, Citronelle, Daphne, Satsuma, Vigor, B.C. Rain and Williamson.

The top scoring team at the end of 3 rounds of competition gets a bye to the championship match.  The second through seventh place teams compete in a semi-final series to determine the other 2 teams who meet in the one deciding championship match.

The next HiQ match is Thursday morning at Satsuma High School.
