2nd grader brings grenade to class

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (AP) - A Santa Rosa Beach elementary school called in a bomb squad after a second-grader brought a grenade for show-and-tell.

Wendy Ammons of the Walton County Sheriff's Office said the bomb squad determined that the grenade wasn't live.

The county's superintendent said that the Bay Elementary School student bought the grenade at a gun show with his parents over the weekend.

Superintendent Carlene Anderson said the boy's parents warned him not to take it to school, but he brought it to class Monday anyway.

Anderson said a school resource officer found a hole in the bottom of the grenade but still thought it best to call in a bomb squad. All outside activities were stopped while authorities examined the device outside the school.
