MIAMI (AP) — An advocate for the prevention of childhood sexual abuse is walking from Key West to Tallahassee to raise awareness.

Lauren Book arrived in Miami on Friday. She met with other survivors and supporters, and participated in a rally with players and coaches from the Miami Heat.

Book is the founder of Lauren's Kids and launched the Walk in My Shoes campaign in 2010. She was a victim of sex abuse as a child.

Along the 1,500 mile walk Book is providing communities with knowledge on how they can protect their children. She is scheduled to arrive in Tallahassee on April 23.
