FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla (WALA) - The Florida Highway Patrol says a 40-year-old Fort Walton Beach man was killed Friday night while he crossed Racetrack Road and was hit by a truck.

Troopers say Wilmer Rodrriguez-Rodriguez was walking north across Racetrack Road near Patrick Drive shortly after 8:30 Friday night when he was hit by a truck.

The Highway Patrol says Rodrriguez-Rodriguez crossed the eastbound lanes, stopped in the median and then stepped into the westbound lanes.

Troopers say the victim was struck by a truck driven by 36-year-old Shawn Cogan of Fort Walton Beach.

They say Cogan was not able to avoid Rodrriguez-Rodriguez.

The victim was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

As of now, no charges have been filed in the case.
