(WALA) - Gulf Islands National Seashore Superintendent Dan Brown announced that the Fort Pickens Museum would temporarily close from Monday, May 7, to Friday, May 18.

The museum will be closed for the installation of new museum exhibits.

“The new museum exhibits will feature the essence of the natural and cultural history of Santa Rosa Island. There will be several interactive exhibits and new high definition audiovisual programs," Brown said.

The Fort Pickens Museum was severely damaged from Hurricane Ivan in 2004. The museum has been open with temporary exhibits since December 2011.

The installation of the new museum exhibits will mark the completion of all Hurricane Ivan and Katrina recovery projects in the Florida and Mississippi Districts.

For more information call the Naval Live Oaks Visitor Center at (850) 934-2600 or visit their website at www.nps.gov/guis .
